AGF 1605 Louca Darwyn Purebred AngloNubianBuck
April 7, 2009
The arrival of AGF 1605 Louca Darwyn a purebred AngloNubian buck from one of the leading breeder in Australia in 2007, marks the start of our Mitra Line breed improvement program. AGF Darwyn has a prominent roman nose face and with his young age has the size and body to become an outstanding herdsire. He has a slight overshot jaw which he throws to some of his progeny and this is a very small flaw which we consider as tolerable.
His bloodline are impressive coming from one of the best Dam of Sandy Green of Killara Ram Stud, the dam's mother is Killara Ram Pamia an Australian Champion with good milking line. The dam Killara Ram Lavanya recorded an average of 4 litres of milk per day when it was tested.
AGF 1605 Louca Darwyn is prepotent and kids coming from him are showing a lot of length, height and his prominent features. We are happy with the performance of AGF Darwyn and his solid contribution to our breed improvement program. He is the cornerstone in improving our Mitra line which we are using in developing a Philippines dairy goat. We are crossing our Mitra Line doe with a purebred Saanen buck and branded it as Alaminos Mitra Saanen (AMS) cross.
This year AGF decided to slow down the production of the AMS Cross because of the big demand for Mitra line doelings and bucklings which we could not meet. Raisers are clamoring for more Mitra line doelings and bucklings, to meet market demand we are focusing on increasing their numbers. This is purely a business decision and we will continue the AMS cross program once we have met market demand for our Mitra Line.
To improve the Mitra Line a stricker selection criteria were introduced. The buck producing smaller progenies were taken out of the breeding program. The doe lines producing our famous Mitra line were identified. Selection of the Top 10 percent of the doelings produced is being implemented to sustain improvement of the Mitra Line in the coming years.
AGF Darwyn is heavilly used in the Mitra Line line breed improvement program and his progenies selected for breeding are bred to AGF Edgar. The progenies of AGF Edgar are then bred back to AGF Darwyn.
We are happy for having selected AGF Louca Darwyn from Australia as our head herdsire for our Mitra Line Breed Improvement Program. He is producing a lot of outstanding progenies and makes us very proud as a breeder.
The Mitra Line have been a productive line for us, it is very prolific which means it is adapted to the tropical condition in the country. The Anglo Nubian does we have imported from Australia in 2007 were a failure. It has not adapted to the tropical condition in the country to this day. That is why we have started to focus our attention in increasing the production of the Mitra Line instead of waiting for the imported Anglo Nubian does to be productive which we think will not happen anymore.
